As you enter the gate to Route 16, make sure you talk to the Baseball player inside, because he'll give you the Macho Brace. This item can be used in EV training, but, in a nutshell, it raises the rate at which your stats grow up to a certain point, although it will half your Speed while it is equipped (it does not lead to any long-lasting Speed decreases, don't worry!).
The first Trainer you have to fight is a Conductor, who uses a Drilbur L25. Just past him is a Cyclist with a Tranquill L25. Further past him you'll find a Fan Club that will battle you in a Double Battle with their two Scraggy L24. Finally, there's another Cyclist past the Fan Club, who uses a Whirlipede L25.
You can go inside the gate to the Marvelous Bridge, although you won't actually be able to go onto the bridge. You can talk to the Roughneck in there for a free Fresh Water, though.
Anyway, make your way back towards the beginning of the route and head inside the opening in the fence, into the forest, to find some of the tall grass. There's a Backpacker a little ways in with a Watchog L25. If you have Cut handy, you can cut down the shrub nearby him to reach a Heal Ball, but it isn't really a problem missing out on it. Take the other path instead and you'll find the entrance to the Lostlorn Forest.

Before we check that out, though, if you have Strength taught to one of your Pokemon, you can move the boulder over by the Fan Club and access the thick grass portion of the route. There's a Backpacker up there with a Liepard L25. Hidden in the empty patch in the grass just above her is a TinyMushroom, which you can sell on Route 5 for some extra dough, but more importantly, just to the east of her, behind the fence, is TM66 (Payback), which is a Dark-type attack that does more damage to the foe if you act last. Pretty handy.
Now go back and heal your Pokemon, then return to that entrance to the Lostlorn Forest and go on inside!
